dirty dancing
dirty dancing one of my favorite films is a genre of romance. It is a very old fashioned film but does really express love between two different classes.
It starts off with black and white film of couples dancing to music sexually while the cast list appears on the screen as red which connotes love. The first couple which appear on the screen a close together dancing and are gazing into eachothers eyes which shows the passion and love they have for eachother. They express there love through a certain dance. It fades in and out of different shots which are shown slowly and calmly to fit the mood that they are trying to get across to the audience to give them an understand of what genre this film is. The face expressions on some people are witty and excited they are showing emotion of happiness and enjoyment this get the audience in a good mood and follow on watching.
Dirty dancing title appears fitting the entire screen and has a elegant posh font and is shown in pink a feminine colour and heartwarming colour this shows us and the audience who the target audience will be appealing to, females. Females are the common audience that will go out and watching a romantic film. The women has who has her leg up when dancing slowly moving her hand down her leg shows a sexually action and may attract male audience and can show us that there is sexual scenes in the film to the fact they have already shown something sexual that wont usually appear in children films. Which means that the audience age certificate will be a 15 to the images that may come across as too appealing.
They include black people in the film which show that they arent rascist and in this time black people are the same as white people and any other race. The movement and behaviour between the male and females during the dancing is very intimate and you can see the compassion and love that they are trying to express to the audience. Another partner the male leans the women over and flings her about and they show excitment and careless fun. Brings the right mood to the movie and bring a good vibe.
Then the song stop which is played during that minute and the radio begins as it continues the same scene then it changes when a song begins to play and a old fashioned car which is new in the period of time it was filmed trying on the road and zooming past the camera. Then you are introduces to a young attractive teenage girl which will appeal to young male audience as they will enjoy watching a female as she is the main character

I have chosen to analyse Saw the first one it is a extremely successful film from the amount of things which are shown in the scene and the opening scene really works well on setting the mood and catching the audiences eye.
It stars the film with a the cast list appearing amoungst a black background and after 2 seconds of the cast list it appears with a dark scene with a light only catching a glimps of someone who seems to be underwater. The sounds are heavy and dark like they are trying to breath under water and are struggle to grab air this shows stress and frustration to the character which is being shown on the screen at the moment.
The title appears blue like its in water and it slowly fades away during this course of events the music continues slow and draining sounds creeping and suspicous. The pace of the recorded footage has slown down to emphaysis the thing which is moving around in the dark it allows the audience to try and figure out what they are looking at. . All of the sudden the man which was underneath the water comes gasping out the water in shock and confusion. You can understand that he is clueless to whats happened to the fact he is breathing heavily and it shows us that he has been forced into something.
You suddenly see it disappear down a drain or something its vague and hard to tell this ies because they have made sure its hard to see to confuse you and make you question the things which have happened you can tell aswell as it lightens up which is edited to make it stand out as it is a key item which will be there for a purpose and the audience will have more of an understand later on in the film.
He lifts himself out to what is to appear to be a bath which is unusual and weird as he is wearing his clothes this shows that someone else is involved to why he has ended up where he is. He ends up landing on the floor and gasping and moaning like he has been kept underneath there for a while this puts worry into the audience face. As he lifts himself up you hear a gingling sound and as he understands that his being prevented moving about he follows the sound of the gingling and comes across that he is chained to the wall by his foot. He begins on panicking and we can identify that by him shouting frantically into the complete darkness 'help' it shows that he isnt caring about anything except escaping and having a idea of what situation he is in.
all of a sudden a low masculine voice replies to his frantic crying and you can tell from the pitch of the mans voice that he understand that they are stuck but the man who came out the bath has a hight pitch voice as he is shown to be more childish and vunerable character to the fact he is showing his fear to the man and the audience.

titanic is a romantic film about a love story between two types of classes upper class and higher class and they are travelling to together and they both experiance what eachother lifes are like through the time of travelling.
here it shows it introducing the main subject which is the titanic which is the boat the one of the biggest ones made. It then shows a crowd of people waving goodbye to the ones that are on it and the atmosphere is crazy. The music played is calm and heart warming which sinks the audience in and intreges them as they know what genre the film will be. The camera composition is middle shot which means it gets everything in which means there is a variety of things going on to keep the audience appealed and intreged to watch on.
they have then taken a shot from a low angle and from a person perspective watching the people sail away and the waving and shouting of people around them. It shows that in the time that it was set that travelling was very rare and that it was mainly for certain class. The shot of the person filming the boat setting off showed that it was a important event to have been witnessed that in the time new things were being invented and sailing on a boat this big has only just happened and it was a rare mount in time. The music continues to proceed calm and relaxed. When the camera moves its slow and steady watching every moment from the people as possible. Shows care and curiosity which is what the audience will be thinking.
here it shows people on the boat waving goodbye, there a range of people shown. The outfits are very modern and smart and very posh the hats and the suits signifies that they were upper class and extremely happy and sucessful. It showed the audience that the film would be set in a time before which peope had not been familar with. This ment that there would be different laws and treatment such as power and equality. It would be intreging to some people to watch what it was like back in those days.
the title then appeared amoungst a dark blue sea which slowly moved about behind the title. The title was bold and white. This showed purity and importance as it stood out and looked very persuasive. The font was very old fashioned which related to the scenary of the film. It fades away like its disappearing into the water which could link to the film. Then the music gets then a blue light appears and a sound which gets louder as it gets closer a machine with lights comes past and informs the audience that they are underwater searching for something which sends them into curiosity and hooks them in.
the last ten seconds of the clip is you watching the machines go further into the water as the music softens the mood and they disappear the music gradually fades along with it, really sets the scene well.

the chronicles of narnia is about a family which get sent away in the war to a families house and they discover a mysterious place through a wardrobe its an adventure filmed which aimed at younger audience.
the first scene is hard to see but it starts off in the skies of england with the military planes with the racing music to join it put the audience glued onto the story to find out what is expected next. It then goes inside of a plane where you can witness a man with a gas mask which can connote danger and fear. This signifies that this period of time was serious and dangerous for alot of people. The music is upbeat and combinded with the radio speaking it is crowding and exciting so that the audience have alot to focus on. The darkness means that the audience really need to concentrate and pay attention to what is going on and using a scene like this at the beginning sometimes works extremely well if the storyline at the beginning can really hook them in.
The camera is the from a front view of the plane and the audience is blinded by a mysterious light which is shone behind sound of explosions and including blinding lights which appear frequently all over the scene bring emotion to the fact of the pain and fear that some the people in the scene must be going through. sound of the engine of the plane loud and long connotes the amount of pressure and strength to contain control and to carry on surviving what is being witnessed by the audience itself.
using a birdseye view shot shows the audience how high they are and what everything looks like below them and it looks dull and dead nothing is in your face exciting and this moment in time.
using the effect of falling with the bombs that have just been drop bring more tension to the people watching as they know that eventually anytime soon a explosion will occur and it puts worry in there heads which really brings them into being part of the movie to the fact they are having concerns.
It then turns onto a young boy watching outside his window everything that is happening and reason we know this is they have used the mirror effect so we can see what his seeing aswell. The sounds of the alarms and explosions going off really brings fear to the boy and his face expression is speechless. A woman comes running in shouting in panick which means that she is the mother worried of the danger which surrounds her loved ones, she shuts the curtain and shouts another boys name in complete dull and darkness she shouts at the first boy in fright and they leave the room.
they then switch to a little girl calling for her mother, this confuses the audience to why she is not safe and is left alone then a older girl comes in a removes her from the room, the camera shot is cut to them all running out to the shelter in panick and shows that they are all suffering from the events that this time had to go through.

shrooms is one of my favourite film and is a horror about teenager going camping and taking a drug called shrooms and the side effects which happen which turn them crazy and killings appear.
The film starts with slow voilins playing with the text of casts appearing on just a black background which doesnt reveal much which last then all of a sudden a heavy breathing frantic young teenage girl comes running through dark and gloomy woods which comes across as spooky and dangerous. through the body structure and the sounds she is performing it indicates that this girl is running out of fear and shock that she had stumbled across something which has disturbed her and is trying hard to run away from it. She is sooo determind that she moves faster than usual and that eventhough she wants to stop to the fact of losing breathe she continues which means she is causing herself to breath heavily to prevent any sudden stops as she knows that if she stop then something will happen and from what audience have witness from the same genre film that deaths accure in common place where she was just at.
A building appears and then a bucket of some goo, then blood on the wall and through watching this screaming and screeching sounds are played then nature sounds are put over the top aswell to make it hectic and bring the audience heart beats up which means that they will be experiance the same effect that the girl was having. It then returns to the girl but watching her feet running through the long grass and dead leave which are in her way of escaping the area which she no longer wants to be in. It then returns to inside a building only black and white effect which has been used in editing.
Camera moves down the corridor with screeching sound circling around there heads. It then cuts to a close up shot of someone had with fingers cut off shaking in pain and moan and groaning of a male person which the audience would assume would be the person that had lost its fingers. Then a blurry black image of a tall thin hooded figure appears searching around which bring tension as the audience would assume from that perspective that it was searching for you. It then returns back to the girl still running, then jumping and leaping of stuff like she was crazy. Using the jump shots really brings the tension and attraction to the scenes shown. Then dead things and random figures appear to confuse people and put people on edge of uncertaincy.
It returns back to her then dark clueless figure which will evetually be solved jump back and forth from each scene then a hooded image turns around and extremely zoomed in image of a axe is shown to suggest that there will be disturbing goury deaths. Then an person head is shown with blood slightly on the cheek and before anything else happens it returns to the text which brings the pressure back down and audience arent hanging of there seats anymore.
The atmosphere changes and the new scene starts with a airplane seat being indicated then the camera slowly moves towards two attractive young girls sitting on a plane this could state that they are important characters in the film and have a role or something to do with things which had recently been shown in the opening.

analysing the opening 2minutes of scream
The film scream was made in 1996 which means that the quality and achievement of pulling of a great horror was created different to how they make them today. they start the opening two minutes with a loud crash and the title drops in bold and white which stands out against the black background this could suggest importance of relating the title into things which could appear in the film the white font is used well as it clashes well with the black and brings out the white more which means that it will be seen from a good distance.
Its very plain and ordinary which worked well as its gives the main focus on the word which is shown 'scream' making a title called scream straight away shows the audience that this films genre will be a thriller/ horror as screams usually occur in films which are related to death and fear. During the course of the title flashes of red appear at the bottle of the title which shows that there will be scream relating to things which signify blood such as blood, death and fear.
The phone begins to ring and then it makes a knife slashing sound and screaming girls and then the colour of the title changes to red which connotes blood and death and then the title disappears. The sound of the phone rings again the women answer and starts a conversation she is shown to be a teenager home alone which is a perfect time for a killing scene to happen, this is a stereotypical fact and the audience will know that sometime soon something will happen.
She put the phone down calm she turns around and as she begins to walk of suspiciously the phone rings again she turns around with a facial expression which bring confusing and fear this brings the readers into what could happen next.continuous phone calls are made and the voice on the phone is deep and creepy eventhough the women acts calm and oblivious. he comes across flirticious as she is dragged into the conversation but then puts the phone down and walks off.
The scene has changed and you appear outside they use the natural sounds to change the atmosphere of the situation to put you off what has just happened. You return back inside and watch her make popcorn and as suspected the phone rings again the same sound which will replay through your head to be the person that will eventually strike. She answers the phone and starts a conversation revealing what she is doing and it signifies to the person that she home alone watching a scary movie which connotes that she is brave person.
She walks off locking all the doors carrying on a casual conversation with a complete stranger, this is dragging the audience in as the suspense of what this phone call has to do with anything related to the storyline.
nightmare on elm street an old version of a horror which was about a man called freddie cougar who was killed and comes back to kill all the children of the parents that burned him to death to the fact that he was being a paedofile and was trying to do things to the little children when they were in nursery.
The music is old but high and jumpy and bring a sort of excited but creepy vibre to the scene. It starts with heavy breathing and then a close up shot of someones feets walking and picking up something next to a table. A brown paper bag which signifies that period which this was creating and the quality that its been shown in. This film was created years ago and still comes across a very successful and a good selling point on pulling off a frightening horror. It then does a birdeye view shot of the person tipping the bag over and emptying it onto a table full of junk. It doesnt reveal the face which can intrege the readers as they will be concerned and curious on who they are watching at this persist moment.
Once he is finished, you can tell that its a man from the low heavy breathing and his hands are very broud and musky and massive he picks up a kitchen knife and something which had been poured out of the bag this is mysterious abnormal behaviour and hooks the audience into what exactly is this person doing. He then grabs a pair of garden gloves and cuts of the tips of the ends this could show that the character can come across as crazy and maybe negative personality that he can be the cause of whatever pain will appear in the film.
You then watch him start to work on something using manly and dangerous tools once he is finished you see a result and final thing which he created as he slips his fingers into the gloves you witness that he has sharp blades attached to the ends which connotes danger, death, blood and revenge. you can hear him make raa noises and continuous breathing. You can see that his wearing a dirty red jumper which shows that his different and less important than other to the fact of his appearance. This could kind give sympathy to him and people may want to find out more about him.
The title appears with a chiming sound which comes across as creepy and suspicious. They used red on the text and a different type of font to make it stand out on the black. the red also connotes blood, death, love it can be shown from different perspectives depending on the storyline but in the cases of its genre: horror it will mainly have been used to connote blood and death.
They only used the red on nightmare which could suggest that the deaths will appear in peoples nightmares and the white text for on elm street will show where the scene is set and it will all come together and have more of an understand to the title during the course of the film. They have really pulled of the title and really grabbed the readers in with not revealing much in the first miute.
after the title you see him plunge his weaponed hand into some material and hear him scream with anger and aggression this shows that he has a story to why he will be chosing to make the decision to becoming the killer in the film. This means that the audience will want to find out as soon as possible and they are hooked into the story.
Brand new setting with a young women amoungst a white very bright background you can see that she is in fear to the fact the sweat which is shown on her forehead and in her hair. the fact of continuous music mean that soon something will be occuring but she doesnt know it yet but the audience have a hint that they do. An extreme close up shot of her shows her face expression perfectly, confusing, vulnerable, scared, insecure all our exposed to the audience and as the shot changes she is shown from a distance moving slowly but carefully down a creepy corridor which is unknown to her and the audience.
Her actions have changed and as the music changes you see her figure move quicker and she twist her body around to see whos there as she gets closer and closer to the camera and the audience. You hear her moaning and panting during the course of this part signifies that her fear has taken over her whole body. her heart is racing and the audience are connecting with her as they are feeling exactly the same as they are not aware of what will be happening next.
The girl is shown to be wearing her nightie which could suggest that she is dreaming about this as it is unusual for girl to be wearing a nightie outside the bedroom normally.
I have chosen dread to annotate as its the same genre of my opening two minutes. Starts of with the cast not revealing anything just uses the white bold text against the black background. The music is different but calm which doesnt straight away connote danger it hooks the audience in slowly. The music is soft but send of a sad lonely messge and after a few lists of names of cast a figure not focused of a man which is sitting infront a window which is reflect the bright sun which allows us to not see the man clearly. He suddenly speaks out of the blue which could make the audience jump starts talking in short sentence and comes across as negative by the aggressive way he is talking.
A female voice say sexual and suductive which calms the music down and it has a pause until he replies this is good at keep audience in main focus and leave a cliff hanger on what they want to hear or find out. Once he replies it blackens out and blurry and fast moved images appear as the title appears on the middle left hand side vaguely as they have chosen a black font but it gradually gets bigger and the music allows it to stand out as it shows the audience something is happening to the fact the music has increased its pitch.
The music dies down and the scene is pitch black again, sudden movement and you are then scanning a scene full of flats set at night time, this signifies that these buildings must be linked into the characters lives. The scene then bring lightness and you find yourself in a classroom full of students which shows it to be either a unniversity or a college, which shows what the characters age range will mostly be like young adults or teenagers. Then the camera decides to focus on one male person which is sitting the middle of the crowd of people on a table. He is shown to be untidy to his appearance of his long messy hair and his clothes are dull and look dirty and overused. He looks mysterious but can be shown as a key character.
The scene changes to the character which was had been shown recently to be outside in the cold smoking he shown to be different and more independant. You can see through his face experssions and body language that he has something inside which is made him different and he has a parculiar personality which the audience will want to pick a nose at.

genres of opening scenes
here is a war/romance film called forrest gump it doesnt give much away with the first 2 minutes of the film it basically follows a feather around in the air going through the town and leads to a man sitting on a bench this indicates that the film will be revolving around this person. The music played is soft and gentle very feminine. scening is very natural and calm gives full focus on the feather and bring tension and attraction as the audience are curious to what it has to do with a feather but they are so intreged they proceed to follow it on the screen. the feather lands on a mans foot and as he comes to pick it up we are analysing him bottom to top by the use of camera compisition.
adventure
pirates of the caribbean is a adventure film which come across to a massive target audience. It is very intreging opening 2 minutes which really hooks the audience in to the story. It starts with a ship which has shown that the film isnt set in this period of time and must be approxiametly in 1800 to the costumes and props used in the first opening 2 minutes. The ship vague and is shown to be mysterious and creepy to the fact its surrounded by thick fog which is above the dark gloomy sea, they slowly bring this into it to bring effect and suspense. They use low drowning type music to fit the scene of the hidden ship gradually coming out of the darkness.
The ship gets to the extent of it coming to a perspective of filming up all the space of the picture and it give tension to how close it will get to the camera. It moves past the boat slowly with the sounds remaining and a small figure of a person hidden in the background because of the darkness and gloomyness of the atmosphere of the setting they have used. It slowly gets closer and then a soft sound of a young girls voice begins to sing.
They use a young girl called elizabeth a very formal name for a young girl of this age start the film by singing this shows her to be an adventurous girl who is brave and intreging show is shown to be clueless a and as she is singing the camera gradually gets closer to her so people understand who exactly she is. she very young and elegant, shows that she is upper class for the way she is presented. She has a formal gown on very expensive in those times. her hair is all curled and pinned to perfection. The camera shot changes to creeping up behind her. She is singing about pirates and it hints that there will be an appearance of them for her mentioning it in the beginning. A sudden grubby manly hand comes in view of the camera as it grabs the shoulder of the innocent little girl and she makes a gasping sound in complete confusion.
The man comes across as rude and arrogant and shows that he is lower than her to his outfit is less presentable. Conflict is accuring between another male and it shows the respect and equality between classes. Man is present behind the other man which indicates that he is important and is a main character. the camera angle changes when the man walks past him its a low angle which shows that we are looking up at him as he is a powerful character and is important. there use 180 degree rule and use high and low angle to signify class. camera zooms in on the little girl called elizabeth who has a frightened face expression which signifies that something is about to occur.
He makes a comment about that its bad luck to have a women on board a ship which signifies power of men and women at this time to the fact men are shown to be dominate and better than women and women are controlled by there fellow man. Elizabeth is address by her last name which shows her power in class in the film that she is high class which means that you can tell what type of person she will be like in the film to the fact she is already achieving respect at such a young age.
Then camera then shows the water and an object gradually moving closer this brings tension and suddenly you realise that is her umbrella which is hitting against the boat. They used a slow music which fits the mood of elizabeths feelings and emotion at this point she is interested and curious about what had been floating in the water. As she leans to admire it as she turns her head carelessly and casual she notices a raft with a boy on it. This put reader on there feet as they are curious to what happened and want to get straight to the point.

analysing a action film
Resident evil afterlife is an action film it can be identify in the title.
they start of the opening scene from a birds eye view of a city and drags our names from the cast included. Throughout it has a tense music which brings the audience in as it means that something will occur any second now. It then come to a crowd of people walking in the rain. This shows upbeat movement which means that the audience will need to focus and this grabs them in.
camera shot changes to a bird eye view focusing on a female without an umbrella which makes her stand out and also reveals that she is important, then it suddenly has an close up camera view on a low angle of womens legs the camera moves upwards slowly to the music which bring suspense to reveal who it is showing. it gets half way of the females body and changes the camera shot back to the birds eye view this pulls the readers more in to the fact they have delayed the appearance of the female. music carries on the same throughout bring nerves to the viewers. It then returns to a close up view of the femla returning to move upwards.
everything around her is slower which makes her the main focus, it then approaches her face and looks cold and empty then it moves the camera to a long shot view of her facing her as she is still. All of a sudden the music stops and its focuses on the crowd around her still in slow pace music is soft and tender. Then the camera appear behind the girl moving down as she slowly rotates herself towards the camera music gets louder and it bring heart race viewers moving off there seats expecting something to happen.
the lighting outside gets darker as the music becomes high pitch all this works extremely well and makes an action film so accomplished. then it moves the camera 180 degrees towards a man who you can tell is looking directly at her.

still shots of events
Chris on the other hand is sitting all slumped which doesnt appeal to looking ready and committed in trying there hardest to achieving to get the job. The fact i am surrounded by books and have a pen at hand means im well organised and ready to note down anything which may be relevant on the other hand chris is fiddling with his fingers and looks nervous and unable to give a good impression.
this shot shows two peoeple in love through there eyes they are gazing and they have relaxed shoulders and careless thought which are expressed in there bodies and face expressions. Katie is slight grinning which shows warmth in her face and expresses happiness through this. Abbie is harder to understand she is shown to be a bit more cheesy and childish to the face she is pulling but still shows a positive view.

The ring
(only watch 2 minutes of the clip)
The ring is a horror film and in the opening two minutes it starts the scene on a dark night with unfortuante weather windy and creepy. during that time it heads towards a house with the sound of a television static getting louder. Voices begin to appear without the picture then it introduces female teenagers and coincidentally they are home alone watching television bored. This shows that its a typical time for a death or attack to occur, which makes the audience hooked from the obvious signs that they have brought in, in the opening scene.
The two girls seems to have come across as childish as they introduce a tape when a story is put forward they use tension music throughout to bring suspense to what she is describing .The face expressions bring alot towards hooking the audience in as the face reaction bring fear and uncomfort this begins to make the audience question if the story is real.
The girls are shown to be clueless and scared which makes the audience more tense for them as the suspense of there fears are shown strongly putting the audience in there shoes and makes it more lifelike and hook them in. As the girls face drops when she says how do you know about that you want to listen to what she has to say as she must have had recent event which revolve around the story.

The Woman in Black Opening Scene
On the beginning of the women in black it comes across as calm as you watch young children playing with there toys. They are shown to be in the past as the costumes used show that this film was set years ago. The props used aswell identify the time set aswell the furniture and the toys they play with. The beginning bit gives off a tense vibe as it seems all to perfect that something will occur this integers the audience to what will occur next.
During this shooting the music bring up pace and the body language from the girls show that something abnormal is happening. It uses slow motion to drag on the oncoming events as they raise up from the floor the music carrying on it leaves the audience glued as they are clueless to what will happen, then a girl stands on her toy like nothing so it shows that something is going to happen and these show the audience that this films genre is horror to the fact that they drag on things to make the audience jump.
Then the girl approach the windows as stand up together and they jump from the window. This makes the audience heart rates pick up and really hook them the music is silenced until you hear screaming. This indicates that the three girls have killed themselves. This a great introduction to the film and Gives the audience a little taste to what will be expected throughout.
